GROWING FROM A POOR HOME
Growing from a poor family is not and never
a crime or a taboo. Every child would choose the rich family against the poor,
if asked to choose from the womb, yet, only God knows why he made some rich and
some poor.
Destiny they say will always have its way.
No man can question his/her creator for what he/she is today. Although, those
families that are poor too did not plan to be poor from beginning, yet all
things go odd and devastating.
To briefly analyze and discuss what is
meant by the word ‘poor’, it simply means lack. It is a state of being unable
or incapable of meeting up with certain expectations, unlike the assumptions of
people. Poverty can be in various forms such as financial poverty,
psychological, emotional and child bearing poverty etc
Anybody who is poor is prone to the
following stigmas:
1. Lost of respect
2. Stagnancy
3. Embarrassment
4. Underrating
5. Reshedness
6. Silence among peers
7. Limitations
8. Promise and fail etc
I want to believe that no one will want to
remain poor in life, because poverty doesn’t taste good and palatable, and that
is why most youths go extra mile to do rituals, fraud, stealing and
prostitution, because they want to save themselves from limitations and other
things listed above, without thinking and considering the consequences.
You may agree with me that poverty leads to
frustration, and frustration leads to desperation, which has led so many people
to do what they shouldn’t have done.
Despite the efforts of governments across
the world to incapacitate poverty and lack, it still increases by the day. The
non-governmental organizations such as FHI, WHO (world health organization),
UNICEF, UNESCO, USAID, UNDP, ECOWAS among others, have done their best, even
the religious groups are not left behind, yet poverty remains in the world.
It made it clear to me now that no man can
stop poverty, but like they say ‘HEAVEN HELP THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES’.
You can help yourself reduce poverty and
get rich on your own part, only if you can follow the following steps:
9(NINE) STEPS TO REDUCE POVERTY
The steps below are not just to be read but
practiced to get the positive change you expect. I urge you to read and make up
your mind for a positive change, because changes are things of the mind. Make
up your mind today and your situation will be turned around.
1.
PUTTING GOD FIRST
Like I have said in my
earlier paragraphs that no man can eradicate or stop poverty, it goes to show
that, the only person that can do it is God, and that’s why you should put him
first. Take for instance, your only child was ill and taken to the hospital,
and the doctor recommends that Paracetamol is the only drug to restore your
child; will you get another drug apart from Paracetamol? Certainly NOT
GOD is the only solution
to poverty and the only source of wealth and that’s why you should put him
first.
‘How do I put him first?
‘Believe in your mind that HE is the only way to your riches and outside HIM is
poverty. With this, you are a step toward success.
2.
BE PRAYERFUL
Prayer is another tool
that should be used to breakthrough poverty. There is a popular saying that ‘a
prayer less person is a powerless being’, which is true to the words. Here are
the directions of your prayer:
a. Pray to know who you are
If you don’t know who you are, it will be likened to tilling
a hard ground i.e. wasting your time. Ask God to show you whom you are, and
what he wants you to do, if not, you’ll work with no result to show.
b. Break every barrier:
Barriers like curses are hindrances to blessings and
until they are broken, no change will happen. These barriers could be curses
inherited from generations; it could also be caused by oneself. Pray to break
every barrier on your way to success.
c. Be spiritual:
Many people pray and they fail to hear from God. When
you are praying, try to be in the spirit and ready to hear from God. Be
attentive to His warnings and instructions and He will guide your steps.
d. Pray with faith:
When you pray, have faith and believe that the person you are
praying to(God) is capable of granting your desires and requests. Have faith
without doubt that your prayers will be answered and that you shall succeed
even when others are failing.
3.
DETERMINATION:
Determination is a make-up
thing of the mind. It is also when you make up or harden your heart/mind to
achieve or do some things without considering their consequences and the costs.
As someone who wants to break through from a poor family, you need a lot of
determinations. Make up your mind and believe in whatever decision that will
help you to succeed. Be determined to achieve whatsoever you pursue.
4.
PLANNING:
According to a quote that
says ‘if you fail to plan, you plan to fail’, always plan your days, time and
even resources so that you don’t fail. Do not follow things the way they have
come, try to make a change and effects.
a. Save tirelessly:
Be a saver and not a spender. When you do not save, you can’t
have anything to plan and succeed with. Learn to save even the least denomination. This will help you whenever you are out of
cash.
b. Avoid unnecessary spending:
Control your spending and make sure you purchase only
things that are more important. Avoid unnecessary spending, for instance, you
have cooked rice and you still have N50 naira left with you. Because you now
saw your friend eating yam, you felt you too should do same. Its unnecessary
and a waste don’t do that. Spend on things that are very important and
necessary at that point in time.
5.
AVOID DISTRATIONS:
Be yourself and not follow
what people say or do. Accept that you are who you are and be proud of it.
Distractions may come from any angle; it could be from friends, wife, husband,
siblings, parents or even colleagues at work. Stand against what you don’t
want, because you feel they are not good for you. Distractions are of different
forms such as money, clothes, shoes, positions, e.t.c
6.
AVOID UNSERIOUS FRIENDSHIP:
The basis of friendship is
‘supporting and adding value’. If you have friends that are not adding values
to your life, I advice that you stay away from them. Remember the saying,’ if
you can’t beat them, you join them’. If they are such that will distract you,
and will never encourage you, and are always very difficult to convince to do
what is right. Kindly walk out of that friendship.
7.
BE FOCUSED:
The saying,’ determination
without focus is like a delicious soup without salt’ goes to you. Be focused
and don’t give room for distractions.
8.
BE READY TO LEARN:
Don’t forget that the
world itself is an institution where you can never end your learning. Every
human creature learns new things everyday irrespective of their ages, color, gender
or class. You must as well be ready to learn new things that are profitable to
your life. Pretend as if you don’t know even when you know. Don’t forget that
no one is an island of knowledge, so add value to yourself every day.
9.
INVEST:
No matter how little it
may be, just try to invest. Remember that the food in the plate will finish and
not reproduce, while the seed you have planted will produce more for several
plates. You can start a small business no matter how small and dirty it
is. You can even buy shares with
companies. You should just make sure you invest, and expect to get rich soon.
Note: no matter where you
come from, either from a rich or poor home, what matter is how you manage your
life and all the resources in your care. The rich can become poor while the
poor can soon become rich.
Be a wise youth and avoid
limiting yourself to the class of your parents. The financial status of your
parents doesn’t matter, what matter is you.
Make yourself proud and not
your parents. Your future begins with all these.
